The latest fixes/updates to the CS site

We’re making excellent progress now and thanks to all those who have taken the time to write in with their “bug spots”. Below are the fixes that have been applied this week:

  • IE6: further browser fixes
  • Points received when uploading photos/videos to Socials: fixed for future use and points re-allocated for those who previously posted photos/videos
  • When creating/editing Socials, venues are now not mandatory anymore and can be left blank
  • Javascript removed when filtering My Social Diary so no more browser closing issues
  • Error properly displayed when user tries to upload photo to profile and the file is > 2MB
  • Comments on Socials still truncated: fixed
  • Time out of browser session increased to a day
  • Error in query when promoting a Social: fixed
  • Adding a venue to Socials: error when city name entered is not supported by the system, now the postcode is checked instead of the city name
  • In new cities, some group members were not appearing in the group listings

And a couple of new features already:

  • Can search by postcode in Find Friends
  • Auto-closing members Socials

With more to come soon.

CS Birmingham party blog

Carla G (Birmingham Ed):

Birmingham. What a great crowd! We had our ‘official’ launch party the night before last and it was brilliant!

We had a nice section of the Bacchus Bar (“a hidden gem underneath the Burlington Hotel”) and got a few last minute, party prep things done in the nick of time before people started arriving.  The staff laid out a few bottles of rose on ice for everyone coming through the door and despite the heat, the night was a roaring success with the most people ever attending a Birmingham Social (so far!)

It was everything a CS Social should be: great people, great vibe,  lots of laughs, plenty of socialising and many new friends made. With the rose and conversation flowing, it was a top night and we witnessed quite a few people swapping numbers and making plans to meet up again soon.  I enjoyed myself so much I almost forgot it was supposed to be ‘work’. Thanks to all the members who came and made it a great night out. The staff eventually had to push us out of the bar because closing time had come and gone unnoticed by the remaining 30 strong crowd, still up for a few more drinks and lots more fun.

So, people of Birmingham thanks for making our launch party a knock-out success!

See you at the next one!

Faithfully

Carla

CS Manchester party!

Jonny Q (Managing Editor – UK North):

Well, Saturday night was the first of 15 parties throughout all the CS cities and if they are all as good as this one – it’s gonna be one hell of a month!  With over 120 attending and free drinks upon arrival, our members got the party really going by being ultra welcoming and chatty, relaxing and eyeing up the dance floor for later on!

I was joined on the night by 2 great Manchester hosts in Elin and Mel and we spent the best part of the afternoon blowing up baloons, putting up decorations and making sure “ground zero” was ready for lift off come 7.30pm! It’s worth pointing out that on a scale of 1-10 for lung capacity, I’m about a 2, Elin is 6 and Mel was blowing up baloons on a scale of about 12!!! Joining us later on was Sandrine who came down all the way fom CS Scotland – and it was great for her to see how we party down in Manchester – I think she enjoyed herself – I hope so, anyway!

With such a great mix of people, the fun didn’t stop all night. One of the major parts of the party was the big prize draw with prizes being won for a meal at The Lass O Gowrie, Revolution and it was topped off by Jez winning a big day out at Go Ape for 3 people ( although I think my description of Go Ape to him could have been a little better…….Hope it didn’t sound to weird Jez!!!)

It was great to see so many cameras out and there we’re some great shapes being busted on the dance floor all night long (don’t worry, I wasn’t going to scare anyone with my smooth moves!) So after all this, it was time for me to chill – and as I’d started prep for the Party at 12noon that day – sitting out on the canal with a beer and chatting with friends was the perfect ending to a great evening!

See you all for the next big CS Party very soon!

Take care

Jonny

The Leeds re-launch review!

Sarah M, Leeds Editor:

Wow. I’m now fully recovered from the Big Summer Re-Launch Party in Leeds!  I’m happy to report that the party was a real success and I’m both very, very happy and very, very relieved!  I’ve recently taken over from Stacey as CitySocialising’s Associate for the area. So not only were we celebrating the new site but it was an excellent chance for me to get to know some of the newest members in the Leeds area.

We had nearly 100 people attending the event and there was a fantastic atmosphere – it seemed that everyone in Leeds wanted to let their hair down and have a bit of a party!  It was great to see loads of new faces at the party, as well as some old faces (I should say familiar really, shouldn’t I?!)

The staff at Chilli White’s were amazing and so helpful in helping us set up everything before all of our party-goers arrived.  They helped us move around all of the furniture, helped to ease any last minute panics and even blew up all of the balloons!!

I would really like to thank everyone who made this such a fantastic event … let’s get planning for the next big party in Leeds… hope to see you there!

Waiting for the witching hour

Well. It’s been such a long time coming and feeling a real mixture of emotions now. The build of the new CitySocialising site has been underway for 5 months and boy has it been a journey. We’re now less than 2 hours away from starting the launch process- the old site will go to bed at midnight and the team here will start work to deliver the new site, which hopefully should arrive by sunrise. We’ve got stacks of red bull at the ready and late night pirate stations to keep us bubbling all the way through til morning.

I think everyone’s really tired but excited to finally get it up and running. I feel really nervous, partly because it’s the culmination of so many months of hard work, but also because when you care about the community that use and are used to what’s there already, there’s always a worry that they won’t like it. The pressure’s on (again) but, as my great mentor Andy emailed me today: “Things will go wrong and it won’t be perfect (that’s why it’s still called “new” media) – that’s completely normal so don’t worry” – and he’s launched some major sites in his time so that definitely made me feel a bit more relieved.

A HUGE thanks goes to the CS team who have worked really patiently and meticulously behind the scenes over the past couple of months. Their enthusiasm and spirit has made the final stages of this project a real pleasure. It’s weird because the majority started only a couple of months ago and everyone was thrown well and truly in at the deep end – all (bar one) have survived and it now feels like they’ve been part of the team for ages. I’m so looking forward to moving ahead with them all on board – all passionate, hard-working, caring and fun-loving – CitySocialising kinda people.

Fingers crossed for the launch. See you on the other side.
